Mother’s Day

Our gospel lesson for this Sunday comes from the text of John 19:25-27.  There were several things that Jesus said while on the cross but maybe none of them any more important than what He said to Mary: “Woman, here is your son.”  Jesus saw John standing next to His mother and was concerned about her future without a son to care and protect her.  In his dying moments Jesus wanted to provide for His mom because she meant so much to Him.

I think all of us would certainly understand why Jesus cared so deeply for Mary.  Our moms are those special women who gave us life and gave us love in the most vulnerable times of our lives.  Our moms are the one we cry out too when we are hungry or lonely or simply need to be held.  What a wonderful representation of the love of God for us.

Today as I am writing this article I am thinking of one of the moms of our congregation that has gone through so much in her life.  Many of us know and love Sue Blake and pray somehow that we could lighten her burden today as she buries her son Roger.

I would ask that you join me in prayer for the Blake family and especially remember Sue as you would pray for her strength and comforting by the Holy Spirit.

In His Service,

Dr. Don
